Hurray! Our lovely picture book A New Kid on the Farm (We hebben er een geitje bij) has been chosen as Picture Book of the Year 2016.  This means this book is the central title during the Dutch National Read Aloud Days this January, with the new-born goat itself being the main character of the campaign.

national-read-aloud-daysThe National Read Aloud Days are one of the Netherlands’ most important book campaigns, organized by the organization for Collective Promotion for the Dutch Book. Next year’s campaign will be held from January 27th until February 6th, and during that period all elementary schools, preschools, bookshops and libraries in the Netherlands will organize a variety of activities around picture books and reading aloud, the Picture Book of the Year being the centre of all this.

In A New Kid on the Farm, toddler Mick sets out to his favourite farm to visit a new-born he’s heard about. But before he finds the baby goat, he passes all the farm’s animals, who each express their happiness about the birth of the new kid in their own unique way. With its simple text by awarded author Marjet Huiberts and adorable pastel drawings by the talented young illustrator Iris Deppe, this cheerful picture book has proven to be a big hit with both toddlers and their parents, with over 70,000 copies sold already.
