Henriette Boerendans, author and illustrator of the picture book Zero is a Strange Number (Nul is een raar getal), is nominated for the Bologna Children's Book Fair International Award for Illustration 2015. Boerendans is the only Dutch illustrator to be nominated for this year's Award.

The International Award for Illustration is an initiative of the Bologna Children's Book Fair and the SM Foundation. This initiative is part of the activities of the Illustrator’s Exhibition to encourage and support new talents in illustration, the special quality of whose work has yet to be acknowledged by the professional world.

The annual award was established in 2009 and is granted to one of the 75 young illustrators that are selected by an international jury of experts. The winner announced during the Fair will receive a prize of 30.000 dollars and offered to illustrate a children’s book to be published by Grupo SM. The year later the book will be presented during the Fair and a special exhibition organized to highlight the work of the winning artist.

Her nomination for the International Award for Illustration isn't the first time Boerendans gained international recognition for her work: her beautiful woodcut illustrated picture book Zero is a Strange Number was also included in last year's IBBY Honour List. Boerendans' picture books have been sold to France and Switzerland.
